object type: fritware, wheel thrown, painted in blue, black and red under a clear, slightly crazed glaze
Shape: roughly circular fragment, the foot ring base of a larger vessel.
Interior: a black linear roundel is edged with semi-circles outlined in black and coloured alternately in red, black and turquoise, these are separated by pairs of black lines. The zone within the roundel is divided into five areas using thin black curvaceous lines. These areas encompass a central lozenge, two ovals and two triangles, each containing leaves outlined in black painted against a blue, red or black background. The remains of a black concentric band and other painted decoration are visible on the lower body around the fragmentation point. Glaze pools slightly in the base.
Exterior: coated in a thick clear glaze except for the underside of the foot ring.
