IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 75626 accession number: C.604 & A-1928 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Friday 15 December 2023 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Off-white stoneware, thrown, with applied moulded spout and handle, salt glazed, and painted in blue, green, yellow, pink, brownish-red, and black enamels. Globular with a reeded looped handle, and a hexagonal spout with panels of relief patterns, two of different basket weaves and the rest of geometrical and plant motifs. The almost flat lid has a ventilation hole and a squat, vase shaped, finial. Both sides of the pot are painted with a heart shaped panel, outlined in black and pink, with two arrows crossed behind it, and at top centre Hymen's torch. In one panel, a woman wearing a red bodice with blue cuffs, a yellow skirt and pale blue apron, is seated leaning her head on her hand, on the lower part of a ruined arcade with pink, yellow, and blue stonework. In front of her is a small area of water with a flowering plant on the left. In the sky above it Cupid flies towards her loosing an arrow from his bow, with four tiny birds on either side of him. In the other panel, Cupid flies over clouds, holding a bow and arrow pointed at a group of three winged hearts to his left. Above these are five birds, and to his right is a butterfly and four birds all over a band of pale blue sky. The area immediately around the panels, handle and spout are white with a wavy black border. The rest of the pot has a dark green ground with reserved white circles enclosing brownish-red crescents. Above the spout and handle are blue and yellow flowers, which match up with flowers on the lid, which is decorated to match the body of the pot.
