Sometimes the wares were further blackened through the use of a dark-coloured slip. Archaeological evidence suggests that black wares, particularly ones associated, like this teapot, with the preparation and drinking of tea, were among the most common products of many potters in Staffordshire and across England from around 1750 to 1765; in the later 1760s, there popularity declined significantly. The use on this teapot of simple vine motifs and a crabstock handle and spout is typical of black wares of the late 1750s and early 1760s.referenceterm-106496adlib-term-106496bd563695-7339-3178-a8c4-25189907099318th Century, Mid#referenceterm-107736adlib-term-107736e93a8dd1-d76d-320b-be9b-afa352e322a1George IIreferenceterm-107437adlib-term-10743796f4b0d1-fc11-39ff-ae91-1b23d888d479George IIIreferenceterm-107733adlib-term-10773300160189-e3ce-3796-a88b-5aa8d6c808c4lead-glazereferenceterm-42861adlib-term-428615b368285-f1a8-3dcf-a5b2-637fd3c3956cearthenwareWidthcm18.6referencemedia-46319adlib-media-46319ae70c301-53c9-3031-995d-7a12d3a1db8ajpegaa/aa3/C_710_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels550widthpixels76016162723369081imagejpegaa/aa3/mid_C_710_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels362widthpixels50016162723369081imagejpegaa/aa3/C_710_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels550widthpixels76016162723369081imagejpegaa/aa3/preview_C_710_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels181widthpixels25016162723369081image0media
