The lion (or dog) is seated with its head turned towards the viewer on a rounded triangular base which is hollow underneath. There is a hole in the back under the animal's belly. The side nearest to the viewer has been splashed with blue slip which has run down the animal's side and formed a thick crust in front of its right rear leg and on its paw.
