object type: Hard-paste porcelain, press-moulded in parts and assembled, glazed, and painted in blue, green, yellow, mustard-yellow, flesh-pink, dark pink, a little red, pale brown, dark reddish-brown, grey, and black enamels, and lightly gilt. The underside is slightly recessed and glaze. The shallow rectangular base is marbled in dark pink and grey, and is partially covered by a green rug with a yellow fringe. The cellist is seated on a dark reddish-brown stool with two white's goat's legs at the front, and leans his left elbow on a small circular table with a pale green top, gilded edges, and pale brown central support with three scroll feeet. His legs are extended to the viewer's left, and his head is turned in the same direction. He holds the mustard-yellow cello with his left hand and extends his right hand in front of him to play (the bow is missing). He has dark grey hair tied back with a black ribbon, and over it has a black tricorne hat with a green cockade on the left side, and gold edges. He wears a white shirt with ruffles at the neck and wrists, a dark pink coat, black breeches, white ruckled knee-length stockings and yellow slippers.  A narrow double leaf of music rests on his right thigh, and a square piece of paper lies on the ground beside the leg of the stool.
