The cylindrical tankard has a loop handle with a hole at the top for the attachment of a hinged thumbpiece. The top of the sides contract above the top of the handle to create a slight ledge to take a mount. The sides are decorated with a symmetrical pattern made up six rectangular reliefs of pairs of galloping horses amids foliage, each relief having one curved side, Two at the top are placed with the horses the right way up, two at the bottom with them upside down, and two in the middle with them sideways. In the spaces between the reliefs are occupied by incised foliated scrolls on the right and left, and serrated edged leaves at centre front, reserved in a blue ground. The area under and on both sides of the handle is undecorated.
