object type: Pale buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in blue. The jug stands on a disk base. It has an oval body, lightly lobed on the lower part, a cylindrical neck and a strap handle of D section. Attached to the handle is a hinged cover with a flat top and acorn-shaped thumbpiece. The front of the jug is decorated with a cartouche containing a scene of Susannah and the Elders. On either side there is a large anthemion-like motif and smaller feathery-scrolls extending under the handle which is decorated with a herring-bone pattern down its back. Above and below the main field, there are three narrow horizontal lines, a row of semi-circles within semi-circles and another three narrow horizontal bands.
