There are 12 holes, 3 per side, pierced near the outer edge, through which screws hold it to a wooden frame. In the middle there is an oval cartouche containing a classical scene: Anthony standing beside Cleopatra, with two warriors behind them and a hound in front of them. Three men stand beside the columns of a building on the left, and a man chases a woman towards the right in the background. The frame of the cartouche bears the inscription 'PATRIA EXPVLSAM...'. 'VMDICE NVNC JVLIVS CLEOPATRAM MORTE REDVCIT in slightly' raised Roman capitals. The cartouche and its frame are enclosed by a rectangular strapwork frame with a female mask at the top centre, and a male mask at the bottom centre and with fruit in the spandrels between it and the cartouche. There is a hole at the top centre next to the one on the outer edge, and another just to the left of the bottom centre, next to the one on the outer edge. The panel and the frame attached to it, were (on accession) within a rectangular frame. There are also a number of labels. (1) Circular printed in black with a dolphin crest, with below, SEK in script capitals, and below '537' in black ink. (2) Rectangular with blue border, inscribed 'c Abg' or 'Aby' over a line, over 'SEK/537'. (3) Rectangular label with black line border, printed with 'MAPLES DEPOSITORY' (partly missing) and stamped 'CAPTAIN REITLINGER'. object type: The front is dirty ans has rust visible round the screw holes.
