object type: White earthenware, moulded, lead-glazed, transfer-printed and painted in black enamel. Rectangular with a raised frame. Transfer-printed in the middle with a three-quarter face half-length portrait of John Wesley, seated in a chair behind a table on which is a Bible which he holds open with his left hand, and points to a place on the page with his right hand.  Behind him there is a draped curtain  with a tassel, and a bookcase. 'REVEREND JOHN WELSEY. M.A./Aged 87.' is printed below.
