object type: Dial: silver brass dial 8 inches in diameter, inscribed with the standard indications: 'Stormy, Much Rain, Rain, Changeable, Fair, Set Fair, Very Dry', round a scale extending from 28 to 31 inches, and divided into hundredths of an inch. Also inscribed 'T.B. Winter, 53 Grey Street Newcastle upon Tyne'. Original blued steel indicating hand and brass setting hand. The dial is enclosed by a flat bevelled glass set in a cast brass bezel. Modern ivorine setting hand knob. Fahrenheit thermometer with mercury in glass tube, and 12 1/8 inches silvered brass scale extending from approximately 10 to 150 degrees F, contained in a glazed walnut box. 
Tube:  Normal siphon type, replaced.  
Case:  Pine carcase veneered with figured walnut and with applied walnut C-scrolls.
