object type: Edited by Donald W. Knoepfler from the ms. in the Lilly Library, Indiana University. The ms. was printed in 1927 in an edition of 200 copies commissioned by M. Harzof, New York, but most copies were destroyed at his order before distribution. One copy is in the Lilly Library with Twain's ms.
Included at end is a facsim. of a letter from Twain to C.H. Webb, dated Nov. 25 [1867?] explaining why he was unable to complete the play.
