Scope note

Groups of religious, generally Christian, Muslim, or Buddhist, who follow a common rule of life, engage in a specific kind of work or schedule of devotions, and submit to the directions of superiors, often though not exclusively living within a cloistered or restricted space such as a convent or monastery.
