A procedure in which a photographic print (usually albumen) is glued image side down to a glass plate and the paper support rubbed off or otherwise removed. The remaining image is made translucent with oil or wax, may be enhanced with additional painting, and backing added, giving the appearance of a painting upon glass. Popular from 1880's into the early 20th century.
