Organic red pigment obtained fom the wood of either of two trees of tropical Africa, barwood from the species Pterocarpus, or camwood from Baphia nitidia, used as cosmetic and as a red dye. Typically, it is made into a paste, dried, and sculpted into pigment-blocks.
