Necks (chordophone components)

Scope note

The projecting handles of chordophones such as lutes, violins, viols, and guitars, carrying the fingerboard and held by the player with one hand as the other plucks or bows the strings. They may be separate pieces attached by glue or nails, or integral to the body of the instrument.
