Arming doublets

Scope note

Quilted textile garments for the upper body with sleeves and often a skirt, furnished with laces for the attachment of armor pieces of hard material, and often inset with mail gussets for the armpits. They were worn in the 14th and 15th centuries under other armor for added protection and to prevent chafing.
