Burning fluid burners

Scope note

Burners with one or more thin, tapering wick tubes extending above the burner plate but cut off immediately below it to prevent conducting heat into the font containing highly volatile fuel (a mixture of alcohol and redistilled turpentine). When there is more than one tube, they diverge from base to top. Usually small caps are attached by chains to each tube for use in extinguishing the flame and to prevent evaporation of the fuel.
