Assemblies of sloping, overlapping blades, slats, or baffles, which may be fixed or adjustable; designed to exclude rain or snow, to admit air or light in varying degrees, to shield a light source from view at certain angles, or to absorb unwanted light. Used in doors, windows, lighting devices, and the intakes and exhausts of mechanical ventilation systems. For similar but flexible or removable devices of slats or baffles used to obstruct or regulate vision or light as coverings for openings, use "blinds (coverings)."
