Wing dams

Scope note

Use for impermeable, rigid barriers built out from a bank of a river or stream diverting the current to prevent or encourage scour. For similar structures located at the seashore, use "groins (erosion protection works)"; when such structures are built to control shoaling, use "jetties (erosion protection works)."
