Double pieces consisting of outward-curving flanges of plate metal, either riveted to the pauldrons or forged in one piece with the gardbraces, designed to provide extra protection for the neck. Used from the mid-15th to the mid-16th century by horsemen, often they were made removable for foot combat or the field.
