Flak jackets

Scope note

Protective garments consisting of overlapping plates of steel, aluminum, or bonded fiberglass attached within a nylon jacket. They were developed during the Second World War to protect aircraft crews against fragments from antiaircraft shells, and are now also widely used by ground combat personnel.
