Heavy basnets having a hinged visor with an eye slit, a long neck guard overlapping the top of the backplate and a wide bevor, so that the weight was borne on the shoulders rather than the head. They were in use from the late 14th to the early 16th century, becoming particularly heavy and long in the late 15th century.
