Electric guitars

Scope note

Electroacoustic stringed instruments more or less in the form of guitars, occurring in two types. One has a hollow body which functions somewhat like a resonator; the other has a solid body serving solely as a mounting block for the bridge and electronic apparatus, and to bear the strings. In both types the sound is electronically amplified and its tone modified by electronic controls.
