Bumbasses

Scope note

European zitherlike chordophones consisting of a heavy gut string attached at each end to a long wooden pole and passing over an inflated pig's bladder which serves as a resonator. They are sounded with a notched stick or horsehair bow, to provide a droning accompaniment to folksong or dance.
