Ketches (square-rigged vessels)

Scope note

Use for two-masted vessels, square-rigged on both masts, with the mainmast forward of and taller than the mizzen; in use between the late 17th and early 19th centuries. For similar two-masted vessels, but with fore-and-aft rigs and in use since the mid-19th century, use "ketches (fore-and-aft-rigged vessels)."
