Wee Three Logerheads plate, by Samuel Malkin

An image of Plate. Wee Three Logerheads. Malkin, Samuel, potter, probably (English, 1668-1741, Staffordshire). Circular with curved sides and pie-crust border. Two men seated in high backed chairs face each other across a small round table on which stands a jug, bulbous bottle and candlestick with lighted candle. The man on the left is smoking is a pipe, the other is about to drink from a goblet which he holds in his right hand. Above are the words 'Wee three Logerheads' and on the extreme right and left of the dish, the initials .S' and 'M'. Earthenware, press-moulded, slip trailed decoration, lead-glazed front, diameter, whole, 35.3 cm, circa 1720-1730.
