Sculpture / Relief. The Three Maries at the Tomb. Under a trilobed arch in the side of the tomb recline three sleeping soldiers, the centre one holding a spear. On the top of the tomb at the right hand end is seated an angel, his legs dangling down over the arch and holding in his left hand a wand. Behind the tomb are seen the three-quarter length figures of three Maries, conversing as they carry jars of ointment. Ivory, carved in relief, height, whole, 8.7 cm, width, whole, 5.0 cm, circa 1300-1400. Gothic. Medieval. French.
