An image of Islamic pottery. Fragment of a bowl centre. Unknown potter. Probably Syria, Raqqa, or Fustat, Egypt. Shape: irregular fragment on a foot ring. Interior: on the base, enclosed within black concentric lines, an arabesque incorporating whole and split palmette leaves is painted in reserve against a black background. Exterior: undecorated except for the glaze with covers the surface unevenly particularly on the foot ring. The underside of the base has a spot of turquoise glaze. Fritware, probably wheel thrown, painted in black under a turquoise glaze. Height, whole, 3 cm, width, whole, 11.2 cm, diameter, base, 8.9 cm, weight, whole, 135 g, circa 1100-1299. Ayyubid.
