Silver beaker, by Johannes Mautner

An image of Beaker. Mautner, Johannes (Hans) (d.1694). Hungary, Transylvania, Kronstädt (Brasov/Brassó). The sloping cylindrical sides engraved with a pattern of stylised plants and the crest of a lion. The sides are slightly everted at the top and have a moulded rim mount. The sides are engraved with a pattern of three stylised stems each with six leaves on a matted ground. In the front is engraved the number 'XVI' above a crest of a lion and the date '1682' within a motto. Silver-gilt, height, to rim, 20.6 cm, diameter, rim, 14.6 cm, diameter, base, 10.7 cm, weight, whole, 891 g, circa 1682. Production Note: (Hans) Mautner, was also know as Johannes (Hans) Starckmann senior. He was recorded from 1670 to his death in 1694.
