  • Figure. Peasant sowing Corn. Meissen Porcelain Factory, Germany, Saxony, Meissen. Kändler, Johann Joachim (German, 1706-1775). He strides along scattering corn with his right hand, supported by a large white sack of corn by his right side, in front of which stands another small sack, on a low white circular based tinged with green and yellow. With his left hand he supports seed corn lying in a thick white cloth, slung over his left shoulder and under his right arm, knotted behind him. He wears a black three cornered hat over his long grey hair, a sleeveless red-lined coat, a white shirt, pale straw breeches, white stockings, and black shoes with gold buckles. Hard-paste porcelain painted in enamels, height, 21.6, cm, circa 1745-1750. Acquisition Credit: Given by Lord and Lady Fisher through the National Art Collections Fund.
