They may blend imper- / ceptibly into each other. / The great points to be observed in the composition of / a landscape, are proportion(underlined), simplicity(underlined), & harmony(underlined). / Proportion(underlined) is required in landscape, as in other things. / One part shd. not overbalance another. In a building, if the win- / dows are too large for the front _ or in a human figure, if the / legs are too long, or too short for the body, we are displeased. / But tho landscape is not tyed to such exact proportion, as / figures, & works of art; yet still it Sh. even here be attended to. If one / part overbalance another, in any considerable degree, the / exact eye takes offence. For XXVII, the woody hill on the left, is / out of proportion. Such a hill may exist in nature(underlined); but in / composition(underlined), it shd. have been [higher] lower, that the nearer / hill,
