If therefore we can interest the imagination of the spec- / -tator, so as to create in him an idea of some beautiful / scenery beyond such a hill, [&] or such a promontory, which / intercepts the view, we give a scope to a very pleasing de - / ception. It is like the landscape of a dream. The mind na - / turally runs on with an idea, wh. had long possessed it. When / slumber shuts the senses, after seeing a fine view, the idea often / continues _ somewhat faded indeed, but strong enough to / preserve a very amusing picture. Thus in number V, the men / sitting on the a rock may be supposed to see the continutaion of / a landscape, down the valley, which winds round them on / the right: and this gives a sort of clue to the imagination. / The windows of a castle on a hill, or any elevated stand, / which looks down a lake, or a river, may be supposed also / to comand
