Description

Linen panels from a bed curtain, four widths with one large patch.

Embroidered with polychrome silks in satin and darning stitch. The panels are joined by needlewoven insertion stitch. The lower edge is finished with double hem and buttonhole stitch. Each wide vertical band of embroidery placed in the centre of each panel comprises lozenges, stylized branches, double-headed birds and single birds worked in a repeat pattern. The geometric element is in red, the figurative elements in alternating colours. A similar wide band is worked horizontally across the bottom of the curtain. The narrow side bands are of hooked lozonges in alternating colours. Toning tassels decorate the upper half of the curtain.
