Description

Linen gable from a bed tent door embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, long-armed cross, darning, satin and double running stitch.

A small amount of silver thread, laid and couched is also employed in the embellishment of the gable. The red bands of the gable are made up of a repeated lozenge design containing what is probably a highly stylized animal motif. The minor, light blue gable band has an alternating leaf and branch pattern. Bolder, stylized leaf and branch motifs are worked along the centre line with symmetrically arranged parrots, eagles and various other birds, animals and figures, some perched on two boats.
