Fragment of linen skirt border embroidered in polychrome silks in chain, double back, herringbone and split stitch.
The fragment is one width and the pattern is one repeat of a frieze formed by two alternating units, a crowned siren whose tail breaks into sprays of carnations which she holds in her hands and a two handled vase of carnations flanked by a pair of long bodied birds. The spaces at the top are filled with dogs, hares, and bird-fish.
