Description

Linen skirt border embroidered in polychrome silks in buttonhole, Cretan feather, eyelet hole, satin and stem stitch.

The pattern is a frieze formed by units repeating in a completely irregular order: a two handled vase with carnations,two symmetrical sprays of carnations, one with long bodied birds and one with birds at its base. Below this is a border formed by a carnation flower flanked by confronting birds perched on serpents, alternating with repeats of a scrolling stem with flowers.
