Maker: Hayward, Sarah
Band sampler, linen, embroidered with linen thread and polychrome silks in buttonhole, cross, darning, double running and satin stitches. The sampler comprises 18 horizontal bands which include 'boxers', stags, an alphabet and the inscription 'Sarah Hayward 1668'. At the top a space is filled with large, roughly worked, running stitches in coarse linen thread.
