Maker: Wattel, Ann
Band sampler, linen, embroidered with linen thread and polychrome silks in cross, double running and satin stitch. The sampler comprises 18 horizontal bands, a seam runs between bands five and six. The first 9 bands are composed of repeat border patterns, 10 to 12 contain an alphabet, the name 'ANN WATTEL', and the date '1670'. The remaining bands have the inscription worked in satin stitch "ANN WATTEL IS MY N/ AME WITH MY NEDDE/L AND THRED I DID T/ HIS SAM AND IF IT HAD/ BEN B TT R I WOLD"
