Band sampler worked in polychrome silks containing an improving verse and arcaded flowers.
Linen band sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eye, satin, and rococo stitch. Three edges are hemmed and the bottom is buttonholed. The sampler is organised in horizontal bands of inscriptions and stylized arcaded flowers. Sixteen bands are filled with improving verses from top to bottom they read: 'marke well what you / take in hand for larning is more / worth then Hovse or land when la / nd is gone and mon / ey is spent then le / arning is most excelent' / , 'Sarve God that ma / de yov whilst yov have / yovr breath honovr yo / ur parents dear untill / their death in doing so th / ovlt happy be always ob / taining riches health and length of d / ays a blessing is laid vp for svch in sto / re in endless bliss when time shall be no / more.
