Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eyelet hole and satin stitch. The sampler comprises 20 horizontal bands. The top 17 have alphabets, and a half-line of numerals. Band 18 is filled with classical colonnades over green mounds, band 19 contains crowns and coronets and band 20 holds the inscription 'ELIZABETH HANCOCK WORKt This SAMPLAR 1718 / Lord give me wisdom to direct my ways I beg not riches nor yet / Length of days', worked in cross stitch.
