Description

Linen,yellow, band sampler embroidered with coloured silk threads worked in cross, marking cross, double running, eyelet, Florentine, satin and back satin stitch. All the edges are hemmed. The sampler is divided into nineteen horizontal bands, seven of geometric and floral repeating border patterns; the others contain two alphabets, one with each letter worked twice, various individual capitals, a set of numerals of 1 to 17 and the inscription 'MIRIEM BROCKLEHVRST IS MY N/aMe AND WITH MY HAND I WRO/VGHT THe SaMe WHAN I Was EL/EVeN YEARS OLD THe WORKING/OF IT IS WORTH GOLD IN THE ReIGN OF/KING GeORGE THese LINES PARF/IXT'.
