Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross and eyelet stitch. There is a selvedge on the bottom, the other edges are turned under and stitched. The sampler is made up of horizontal bands of narrow repeat border patterns, crowns, coronets, three alphabets, numerals and various initials. At the bottom a wide band of all-over patterns is worked and inscribed 'Elizabeth Cale finished her psampler in the year of her age and in the year of our Lord God 1726'.
