Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross and eyelet hole stitch. The sampler comprises 13 horizontal bands. The top three bands contain alphabets in cross and eyelet hole stitch. The other bands have the inscriptions 'Early go to bed and early to rise/makes a man healthy wealthy and wise', 'every moment spend with care/to shew that you ingenious are', 'The fear of the lord maketh a merry heart and giveth ioy/ and gladness and a long life', 'A wise man ought to be content though poor/ hes only rich that doth desire no more', 'content is a kingdom and happy is he/who with his condition contented can bee', 'endeavour to excell by read/ing true and working well', 'Susanna Kent finished this sampler the 23d of iuly 1726'. The remaining bands are filled with repeat border patterns.
