Description

Band sampler, yellow linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eyelet and hem stitch with an inserted band of holliepoint worked with the name 'Mary North', date ' 1727' and a crown. There is a selvedge at the bottom; the other edges are turned under and stitched. The sampler comprises of horizontal bands of repeat border patterns, three alphabets, numerals and a religious incription in French which reads 'tovtes gens/lovez le seig/nevr toves/pevples chnt/ez son honnev/h car son voul/oir benin & dov/x est mvltip/lie dezzvs nov/s et sa tres fe/rme verite/ demevre a perpetvite/finist febrvary the 16 1727'
