The sampler comprises 9 horizontal bands which include alphabets, numerals, sprigs, a heart, crowns, strawberry sprigs, a repeat border pattern and the inscription 'If you do make Gods word your/ ground his glory great your/end then upright will your s/oul be found and god will be y/our friend. Anne Sutton nov: the 23 1736/ Come glorious Lord my hopes increa(?)/mix my portion with thy peace come/ an forever dwell with me that i may/ only live to thee'.
