Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eyelet hole and satin stitch. The sampler comprises 10 horizontal bands which include alphabets, repeat border patterns, an inscription, the Prince and Princess of Orange with a crowned heart in between them, birds, leaves and panels with further inscriptions. These read 'Improve Your time Lent You to Purchase/heaven and then Youl find it as A time Well/Given/Forget not in thy you/th to serve the Lord/and then long life an/d riches hell afford', 'favovr/is deceitfull/and beauty/ is vain but/ a woman/that fearet/h the Loard/she shall/be praised', 'reme/mber thy/creator/ whilst in/youth and/ follow/him who/is both/light and/ truth', 'dvreing the/time of life allotted/ me grant me good god my/health and liberty I beg/ no more if more thovrt pl/easd to give ill thankfvlly/ the overplvs recive/ ioanna crovch/ September the (6) 1736'.
