Bordered sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome wool in cross and eyelet hole stitch. A strawberry border with a bird in each corner frames the main body of the sampler which comprises 12 horizontal bands. These contain alphabets, the name 'Charlotte Hayes', the date '1770', and the inscription 'When I am Dead and/ in my grave and all/my bones are Rot/ten When this you see/ remember me leaSt/ I Should be forgotten'.
