Linen band sampler worked with polychrome silks and silver metal thread in cross, Montenegrin cross, satin, eyelet, trellis, Rumanian, split, rococo, and stem stitch with some bullion knots and couching. There is a plain selvedge at the top and the other edges are hemmed. The sampler is divided into eight horizontal bands with repeating floral border patterns with an upper pictorial section depicting the sacrifice of Isaac. The upper bands also include an alphabet, numerals 1-9 and the inscription ' ELIZABETH CALTHORPE 1656'
