Linen band sampler embroidered with linen thread and a small amount of coloured silk and silver metal thread in hem, double running and satin stitch; there is some cut and drawn work with needle weaving and needlepoint lace filling stitches. There is a plain selvedge at the bottom, the sides are hemmed and the top is buttonholed. The whitework sampler is divided into fifteen horizontally arranged bands with a variety of geometric and floral motifs and two pictorial sections. The wider one of these sections depicts Judith, her maid and the head of Holofernes; the other a mermaid. All the figures have silk and metal thread detailing.
