Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks and crewel wool in cross, Holbein, running, satin and lace filling stitches. The sampler comprises twelve horizontal bands; the first ten contain repeat border patterns, band eleven an alphabet, and band twelve the initials 'AB'. Band five contains 'boxers'.

History note: Bought by the donor at the sale of the collection of Mrs Edrnis of Bristol in 1893.
